Filling the Empty Bowls.

It is time to FALL into the season when we start trading in our carved Jack-O-Lanterns for that homemade pumpkin pie. Where “pass the stuffing please!” becomes the phrase of the night and everyone falls asleep with a stomach full of turkey. When giving thanks and spending time with family becomes recognized again and everyone catches up from lost times. However, we sometimes take those special moments for granted.

Today at Slippery Rock University in the Smith Student Center Ballroom, any who wish to volunteer or participate will enjoy a meal consisting of soup, bread, and a drink.

All are able to donate canned foods, or $5.00 and in exchange receive and one-of-a-kind hand crafted bowl!

All proceeds benefit food banks, soup kitchens, and other local hunger-fighting organizations.

Feed My Sheep Food Pantry is a non-profit food program that works to prevent hunger in our local communities such as Slippery Rock and Butler.

Like my interview with Erica (which can be viewed in my ThingLink) she mentions that not a lot of people realize hunger issues happen everywhere and not just internationally.
Empty Bowls started 25 years ago by a non-profit organization called Imagine/RENDER, and it helps to provide around 150 families with dinner on Thanksgiving.
The Empty Bowl that you will receive should act as a reminder for all of the hunger issues in their community, and also the money you donated for it helped a family eat a nice warm and fresh dinner for Thanksgiving.
This year Empty Bowls will be on November 5, 2015.
There is a lunch from 11-2, or if you are like me and has to do everything at night because of school or work, you can attend their dinner from 4-6!
If attending Empty Bowls cannot fit into the agenda, there are many ways to help volunteer and donate.
We all know how to Google, and if you are not sure where a local food bank, or soup kitchen is then look it up! It only takes a few minutes, and just a few dollars to help feed a family.
It can just take at least $1.00 to help feed a child, an adult, or a family. Whoever needs it most, Check out the links, videos, and pictures below, and find out how to can help.

Each "Empty Bowl" represents a person in hunger.
