My First Beauty Video on YouTube

I love watching YouTube videos! I have a ton of favorites like the ever so popular Bethany Mota, Niki & Gabi, and Alex Garza. When I was in high school my passion and love for film really grew once I started taking classes and learning how to edit in Adobe and all of that good stuff. It was until I found the Beauty Community on YouTube until college. It never crossed mind my to make them when I was younger. I had the equipment and the crowd (I could have totally put it on the morning announcements LOL) that would have really grown a channel. I was always so obsessed with editing photos for Instagram (and of course in high school...can't forget about Facebook) and looking back on it I should have taken the free time I had then to make videos. Now a days I hardly have any time because of work and school. Sure I worked and went to school back then too, I have no idea where my free time went BUT I want to make a promise to myself to get back into what I love. Film. Tim Burton is such a big inspiration in my life (not trying to get off topic), but I also love fashion, makeup, and hair (what girl doesn't?) so why not make videos on that too? Sure everyone and their sister has a beauty channel out now, but this is for me right now, and anyone who wants to follow me on my journey is more than welcome to!

My first beauty video is a get ready with me! I was on spring break this passed week and so even though I came home from NC I still had off. I woke up, it was raining and I didn't have to work. What else can I do other than sit around and do nothing? I sat my camera (and my camera I mean iPhone) up on the window so I could face it considering I have ZERO professional lights, and the gloomy sky was all I had to work with. I have some decent cameras (point and shoot) but I needed something I could still see myself in. Also the makeup I have to work with is ALL drugstore in this video, which is good and bad since I am not a makeup artist, I did what I could...

So here it is!

Slippery Rock Ballerina

Beginning dance at the age of three, Eden Gade first attended Lee's School of Dance located in Butler, Pennsylvania until the age of 16. She began taking ballet more seriously when she was 13 when she attended her first summer intensive in North Carolina. While still living at home she attended (during the summer) at Boston Ballet, New York City’s ballet school of American Ballet Summer Program, American Ballet Theatre, and Miami City Ballet. At the age of 16, while most teenagers are learning how to drive, Gade was learning to further her ballet training. She made the decision to move to Boston, and was a pre professional student at Boston Ballet for three years.

 There, she had the opportunity to perform in The Nut Cracker, and many other productions. After her three years in Boston, she moved to Orlando and attended Orlando Ballet and was a trainee there. Unfortunately, the year that she was at Orlando Ballet,

she received an injury. Due to her injury, she decided to pursue her education in physical therapy by attending Slippery Rock

University. Her time at Boston Ballet and Orlando Ballet allowed her to receive many accomplishments. She was able to experience performing in many productions, including the Nut Cracker, and a not so traditional piece called Vampire’s Ball, and Hansel and Gretel. Gade was also rewarded with many scholarships to study at Boston Ballet, and Miami City Ballet. While dancing at Lee's School of Dance, her mother offered to work for the dance company so she could dance for free. Gade as three older sisters and each one of them danced as well. Her mother was supportive in helping her daughter succeed. She claims her dad was a little skeptical of her moving away, but only because she is the baby of the family and was the last one to leave. It was however, the fact that her older sisters dance, that inspired her to dance as well. At the age of 13, she was given the opportunity to help student teach at Lee's School of Dance. 
However, since she did move to Boston at the age of 16, she had to finish her high-school education online and unfortunately missed out on activities with the friends she left behind. She was excited that she did attend prom though! She jokes saying, "I didn't have a high-school sweetheart or anything so I didn't have to worry about leaving a guy behind." Some other difficulties she had to overcome, other than her injury and moving away, with ballet was as she said, "Ballet was never easy, it was something you definitely needed to have a passion for." She had to train six to seven days a week for 8-9+ hours. Also all the pressure that gets into a dancer's head of having to be a certain image and to be a perfectionist. 

However, the steps she has taken, the opportunities she has experienced, and the obstacles she has overcome has put her in the right direction she needs for her future. 

79 North: Accident

If you were traveling to work or school today send them a notice because you are going to be lay. This morning around 8:00 am an accident occurred on 79 North just about a mile from exit 105 heading into to Slippery Rock. What caused the accident I am still unaware of, but the driver was ejected from the vehicle. I unfortunately did not have a second to get a photo. Precisely because everyone was in traffic for a half hour or more and once traffic started moving, the flaggers were not waiting around for anyone. If the very back ground of this photo, you can see the white van (almost like a moving van, not a soccer mom family van) stuck in the ditch that separates the highways. Hopefully the driver is okay! A helicopter I believe was the one who took the driver, but I was not close at that time yet to tell. It is the holiday's and it will be snowing soon! Let's all be safe and have a happy holiday this winter!

Transfer student Eden Gade made her way to Slippery Rock University as an Exercise Science Major due to her past of dancing ballet. Beginning ballet at the age of three, her long history with dance lead to a battle with surgery on her ankle that resulted in her quitting dance and to pursue a career as a physical therapist "that works with ballet dancers specifically," she said. 

Like all young girls, we desire to take dance classes, such as ballet or tap, but for Gade, at age 13, she took her love for ballet more seriously and continued to pursue it further after attending her first summer intensive in North Carolina and spent her next few summers attending other summer intensives in New York City, Boston, Miami City, and Orlando.

Thanksgiving Dresses

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
We all know how hard it is to find that perfect holiday outfit. 

Especially for Thanksgiving! 

I never want to wear anything uncomfortable because I will be eating food all day long. My go to a lot of the times are bigger clothing items that will hide the food baby!

With dresses you only need one, and just add in a few accessories!

Alex's dress and jacket are from New York & Company. Her knee high socks are from Charlotte Russe and her boots were purchased at Macys.

My jacket is from Boscov's and I purchased my boots from T.J. Maxx. Any riding boot will do!

Aaron "Wheelz" Fotheringham and the Disability Symposium 2015.

On Tuesday November 24, 2015 Slippery Rock University held it's first Disability Symposium in their student center. Speakers and activities were held such as disability sports that included basketball and volley ball, and their keynote speaker was Aaron "Wheelz" Fotheringham. , Nevada that was born with Spina Bifida. He is known from the Hit TV show, Nitro Circus and will be participating in the Disability Symposium 2015. The Disability Symposium is an event dedicated to sharing stories, receiving feedback, and participating in discussion with students and colleagues.

The event will be a part of the 2015-2016 Slippery Rock University Diversity and Inclusion Series, and is newsworthy because it is close to home, the proximity is very recent, and because of prominence. Wheelz, a keynote speaker, will be participating in a meet and greet on Tuesday November 24, 2015 from 8 A.M. – 2 P.M. in the Smith Student Center.

Using “ThingLink” will help broadcast this story because Aaron Fotheringham is not shy why performing tricks with his wheel chair (Spina Bifida is a health condition that resulted in impairment of his lower limbs) for the camera. He has many videos on YouTube, and any information from Nitro Circus can be linked as well. The event is free to the public and any presentations (poster presentations, communication and hands-on presentations) can be linked as well using photos and videos.
